Welcome to the Calmer Choice Blog! After ten years of successfully bringing secular mindful awareness to schools and the community, we are celebrating our anniversary in a number of ways, including the launch of this blog.
We hope to bring perspectives and information to the public on topics related to mindful awareness practice and our experiences bringing this practice to others. We will feature a number of guest blog writers sharing their expertise and wisdom as it relates to mindfulness and current topics in education, health, and wellness.
At this moment we find ourselves responding to the COVID-19 pandemic and the need to connect in a new way. We share the dismay and uncertainty that many of you may be feeling right now as we are not able to live our regular routines, visit with people we care about, and move freely in the world. While this has certainly changed how we are doing things, it has also opened up an opportunity.
Are you noticing it too?
Underneath the struggle, worry, and uncertainty there may be a chance to do things differently, in a new way, with a new purpose. The proverbial “to do” list gets long at times, and often we are in triage mode, responding to what’s on top. Certainly, there are many people, like all of our first responders, doctors, nurses, and government officials who are still in triage mode and will continue to do so. For many of us, though, we have been told to stop.
Stop going out, stop visiting with friends, stop going to work. JUST STOP.
What do we do now? We cannot go into schools to teach, we cannot hold our community classes, we cannot meet with our instructors in training. This “stopping” has made some space for us at Calmer Choice. Space to make time for this blog we have been talking about for years, as well as, for creating online content for families and the community.
We currently have three online initiatives that were recently launched through our YouTube Channel:

Meet all of our instructors through engaging mindful awareness activities, including books, short practices, games and more.
- Calmer Choice Guided Practice Series for Teens and Adults
This series offers guided mindful awareness practices for teens and adults. Some practices are led by a live instructor and some are just the audio (noted in the title).
- Calmer Choice: Mindful Awareness Audio Practices for Kids
This series offers guided audio practices for children that connect to topics in our curriculum for schools.
There is so much not in our control right now, and that can be unnerving, scary, worrisome. Is there also light?
