The Calmer Choice Curriculum equips children with skills to increase inner resilience, reduce the impact of stress, manage emotional responses, learn self-control, and increase their sense of well-being.
Lessons are approximately 20 minutes in length, twice weekly for younger students, or 45 minutes in length once weekly for students in middle school and high school. The 16 lessons are condensed into 8 weekly lessons for the older students.
In each lesson, a mindful awareness practice is chosen specifically to allow students to embody and personally experience the benefits of the concepts being taught. Lesson content is researched and supports the development of resilience in youth. Some of the significant outcomes of this program are:
- Manage and reduce the impact of stress
- Enhance ability to regulate emotional responses
- Better cope with complex pressures present
- Increase self-esteem and self-compassion
Lesson topics include brain science and stress physiology, the five senses, body awareness, gratitude, generosity, emotional awareness, perspective taking, habits of the mind, handling difficult emotions, and self-compassion.
Online (Virtual) Program
Bring Calmer Choice into your school virtually! This online program will provide 16 lessons formatted for a virtual experience. Each lesson is approximately 20 minutes in length, with opportunities to stop and discuss topics and respond to questions. These lessons provide the same benefits and topics as mentioned in our PreK-12 curriculum for schools (in person). Currently, our recordings are only for grades PreK-5th.
