Calm, Cool & Collected: An Evening of Gratitude and Celebration

Join Us Thursday, October 24, 2019

Please be our guest at the Hyannisport Club for cocktails, bites and a chance to connect with the community of people that have championed Calmer Choice since 2010.

In addition to giving us an opportunity to thank you for your support, we invite you to spend a couple of hours in the company of inspiring speakers, awardees, school partners, families and participants in our innovative and life-changing program.

Keynote Speaker Roy Heffernan

We’re pleased to announce that this year’s keynote speaker is Roy Heffernan. Roy is a Partner and the former Chief Operating Optimist of The Life is Good Company. A $100 million privately-held business based in Boston, MA, Life is Good® spreads positive vibes with its colorful collection of apparel and accessories. Jake, Life is Good’s iconic hero with the contagious smile, teaches men, women and children that optimism is fun, healthy, and empowering.

Roy was directly responsible for multiple business units, ensuring that they delivered on their promises to customers, consumers, and business partners. These included distribution center operations, customer care, finance, IT, human resources and legal. Under his leadership Life is good has centralized operations via the purchase of a 3rd party licensee, fully modernized its distribution center to handle both increased capacity and a vastly expanded product line, and extended the company’s international reach through the incorporation of Life is Good Global.

Roy spent five years as the President of the Board of the Life is Good Kids Foundation. Because Life is Good considers children its ultimate source for inspiration, the company launched its Kids Foundation in 2006 and is totally committed to helping children who face life-threatening conditions as a result of poverty, violence and illness. The Foundation’s action arm, Life is Good Playmakers, is healing and strengthening thousands of children who have suffered from early childhood trauma as the result of violence, abuse, extreme poverty, and natural disasters. Roy considers his Foundation involvement his most significant legacy work.

Prior to joining Life is Good in 2004, Roy spent 20 years in multiple leadership positions within the telecommunications industry, including SVP Business Development for a national cooperative responsible for launching DirectTV in rural America. He also spent several years as a high school teacher and multi-sport coach in Texas and Maine.

Roy and his wife Clare have raised two children whose commitments to serving others are a special source of pride. Their daughter Jana spent two years with Teach For America in inner-city Philadelphia and then went on to teach in Dorchester, MA, while their son Luke assisted young entrepreneurs in Uganda through microfinance while on sabbatical from Price-Waterhouse Coopers. In addition, the next generation has sprouted with three grandsons. Roy is a graduate of Middlebury College where he played football and lacrosse. On summer weekends, he leaves the competition behind for clamming on Cape Cod’s pristine beaches.

Above all, we are grateful for the incredible community (you!) that has come together to forward this work and look forward to celebrating our collective contributions!
